The season began with abundant rainfall. Summer was mild, with normal temperatures and few heat spikes, setting the stage for high-quality grapes. The growing season overall was long and steady, and remained mild to the end, allowing grapes to ripen fully and winemakers to choose their pick date. Wines from this vintage are fresh and approachable. It looks to be another memorable vintage. We selected fruit from five Napa Valley vineyards and one in Sonoma to craft a vibrant, bright wine with depth and complexity. The warmer sites in northern Napa Valley provide layers of stone fruit and tropical notes, while the cooler sites in southern Napa and in Sonoma preserve the acidity and fresh fruit flavors.
Winemaker Jennifer Williams has been with Ziata since January 2015. After interning for a harvest at Araujo Estate and Spottswoode Estate, she joined Spottswoode full time and worked under the tutelage of vineyard manager David Abreu before becoming the winery’s vineyard manager for two years, and then winemaker for six years, before launching her consulting business in 2011.
Fresh and lively, the 2019 Sauvignon Blanc exhibits notes of sweet orange, apricot and passionfruit. True to the vintage, this wine is subtle and nuanced in its expression. Delicate cherry blossoms and rose petal accentuate a bright palate. A natural juiciness gives body and roundness with a touch of grapefruit peel on the finish adds length and complexity.
