Thanks to fermenting with a small amount of whole cluster, this wine bursts with enticing aromas of bright red fruits, tea leaves, marmalade, clove and black pepper. Notes of fresh sea breeze temper the rich characters and offer complexity and intrigue. It's silky and attractive with excellent fruit and balance. It is also savory, with notes of salted caramel and dried herbs. Aged in 2/3 seasoned oak, this is an expressive wine with excellent texture and great length. -Jennifer Williams, Winemaker
The Chenoweth Vineyard is located in Green Valley, the most desired sub-region of the Russian River Valley. The superb soil and climate of Green Valley make it ideal for growing Pinot Noir. Hot sunny days are followed by cool foggy nights that allow for the perfect balance of sugar and acidity development. The Chenoweth Vineyard is comprised of 30 acres that are divided into unique blocks, each based on the different microclimates within this single vineyard. Each block was planted to one of seven clones, selected specifically for that site. This broad mix of soils, climates and clones brings a diversity of aromas, flavors and characteristics unique to the Chenoweth Vineyard. This vintage is a blend of 115, 23 and 37 clones.
The Growing Season:
The growing season began early and progressed evenly all the way through harvest. Bud break, flowering and veraison all took place without concern and the theme was uniform development of the fruit. The ideal conditions set a full crop that we closely managed through aggressive fruit thinning to balance the load of each vine. 2013 delivered exactly what we needed to make a beautiful wine.
