Wine Profile
Tasting Notes
An expressive blend of red Bordeaux varietals with floral aromas of fresh violets and blooming lavender, framed by a spiced bouquet of cinnamon and vanilla bean—all underscored by ripe black cherry, blackberry and plum on the nose. The palate is dark and brooding, with notes of coffee and supple leather. Ripe black cherry and sweet plum flavors are balanced by hints of chocolate and a long, textured finish. -Jennifer Williams, Winemaker
Vineyard Notes
We selected the fruit for this vintage from prestigious Napa Valley sub-appellations where the terroir is ideal for growing red Bordeaux varieties with layers of complex flavor. Malbec from Farella Vineyard at the foothills of the Vaca Mountain Range in Coombsville gave the wine its pronounced aromatics. The volcanic soils at McGah Vineyard in Rutherford produced rich Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with the variety’s signature flavor: cherry. We selected our Cabernet Franc from Kuleto Vineyard, a highelevation site in Napa Valley, to impart intensity and structure to the wine. At the north end of the valley in Calistoga, we turned to Viña EsperazaVineyard for a touch of soft, sweet Petit Verdot fruit, adding complexity and minerality to the final blend.
Production Notes
Despite drought conditions, the 2014 growing season in Napa Valley produced red grapes with rich, complex flavors and supple tannins. Much-needed rain in late spring helped to moderated vine stress, while an alternating pattern of warm periods followed by cooler periods created ideal ripening conditions. Overall, 2014 was an outstanding vintage in Napa Valley, delivering intensely flavored fruit balanced by fresh acidity.
