Background notes unfold with a hint of marjoram, saddle leather and wet stone. On the palate this is a bold pinot noir showing off red fruit with lush and playful, yet delicate tannins balancing well with the body and viscosity of the wine. It finishes with lingering bright and focused tones.
Mother Nature offered Napa Valley a beautiful vintage in 2010. The mild summer proved to be a boon for the quality of the grapes. While much of the U.S. sweltered over the summer, the Napa Valley had day after day of fog-bound mornings, pleasant afternoons and cool evenings. This translated to a slow, but steady, ripening season, giving the grapes time to develop their flavor at a lower sugar level. The Carneros vineyard was tracking about three weeks behind the previous two years, but our decision on when to pick is always based on the flavor profile of the berries, and we were handsomely rewarded for our patience.
